Let's start with some Sicilian Street food shall we?
 
 
Cominciamo con il cibo d'asporto di Sicilia.


 
I could have killed Magro. He went through my camera and deleted some really juicy food pics to make space on the memory card before I'd got them on my computer (ok, so my tardiness is kind of my fault).
 
As a result, I only have one photo of pane and panelle (see above) a typical Sicilian Street food which basically consists of a sesame seed bun filled with fried chickpea patties. Yes it is delicious and no it is not healthy in the slightest. Best enjoyed with a nice cold beer for the summer weather they enjoy all year round.
 
Volevo ammazzare Magro. Ha preso mia macchina fotografica e eliminato alcune belle foto di cibo prima che io le abbia caricate sul computer (ok, ok è un po' colpa mia).
 
Come risultato, ho un unica foto sola del pane e panelle che ho mangiato. Suppongo che già conoscete cos'è il pane e panelle ma se no, è pane di sesamo con farina di ceci fritta dentro. Sì è delizioso e no, non è sano. Meglio servito con una birra fredda per il tempo estivo che c'è per tutto l'anno in Sicilia...
 
 
After we had munched our way through a giant hunk of pane e panelle each, we decided we were still slightly peckish after our coach journey from Catania and seeing as everything else in Palermo appeared to be shut (2pm in February is a bad time to go wandering around looking for shops or grub in Palermo), we decided to stick with our guy and see what else he could offer us.
 
Which turned out to be a really delicious brioche bun stuffed with cheese and spinach.
 
Dopo aver mangiato quel pane e panelle gigante, avevamo ancora un po' di fame dopo il viaggio in pullman da Catania. Visto che tutto era chiuso a Palermo (se vuoi mangiare o fare lo shopping alle 2 in febbraio non avrai successo) abbiamo deciso di fermarci e vedere cos'altro questo posto ci potrebbe offrire.
 
Era un pezzo di brioche pieno di formaggio e spinaci. Assolutamente delizioso!
 

From the outside it doesn't look like much but it really was a treat. If you're ever hungry in Palermo and near Corso Vittorio Emanuele, stop by!

Dall'esterno non sembra niente speciale ma il cibo era veramente buono. Se sei affamato a Palermo e vicino a Corso Vittorio Emanuele, vai a prendere una merenda da questo locale.


Next, the scruffy Magro and I went for a little walk around to see what the seafront could offer us. I've got to say, there's a lot of really beautiful coast down in Sicily but they haven't really made the most of its tourist potential. Also, a lot of places were closed until March because it was out of season. Urm, what? It was as warm as an English August down there! Sicily, you really need to tart your coast up a bit and throw your doors open to tourists year round because you have a lot to offer and you don't even know it!

Poi, abbiamo fatto una passeggiata sul lungomare. Devo dire che la costa siciliana è bellissima ma non hanno realizzato la sua potenziale turistica. Inoltre, molti locali e alberghi erano chiusi per la stagione fino a marzo. Questo non capisco! Faceva tanto caldo quanto agosto in Inghilterra! Sicilia, devi fare più con la tua costa e aprire le porte agli turisti per tutto l'anno perché hai tanto da offrire e non lo sai!


After that it was time to get cultural again so we headed inland and admired architecture and art.

Dopo quello, era l'ora di essere culturale di nuovo. Siamo partiti dal mare e andati a ammirare l'architettura e l'arte.


 I may or may not have been told off for taking photos in art galleries. But I just carried on anyway (without the flash obviously, I'm not a complete criminal). The galleries were quite small but full of really beautiful and interesting art so we spent some time admiring some of the most atmospheric portraits and landscapes I've ever seen. Time for some not-so-sneaky phone pics!
 
E' possibile che qualcuno mi ha rimproverato perché scattavo delle foto dei quadri... ma ho continuato lo stesso (senza flash ovviamente)! Le gallerie erano piccole ma piene di arte interessante. C'erano alcuni quadri più suggestivi che ho mai visto.
 

















Then we got thirsty so we set off in search of a little aperitivo before dinner... which turned into a bit of a drunken escapade...
 
Poi ci è venuta la sete e siamo andati per cercare un piccolo aperitivo prima di cena... che è diventato una serata ubriaca...
