Last night, I dragged Magro to the theatre.

Ieri sera, ho portato Magro al teatro.

Back in December, I went to see Swan Lake with a friend at Teatro Arcimboldi. It was the first time I'd ever seen a live ballet and I loved it. We went to the amazing Trattoria Arlati before the show where we had a three-course meal and wine for €50 (plus they threw in an aperitivo and gave us our desserts for free!) By the time we got to the theatre we were a little drunk but I was conscious enough to enjoy the show all the same. All in all, it was an amazing evening.

In Dicembre, sono andata a guardare Il Lago dei Cigni con un'amica al Teatro Arcimboldi. Era la prima volta che avevo visto una balletta e mi piaceva molto. Siamo andate alla fantastica Trattoria Arlati prima dello spettacolo e abbiamo mangiato molto bene - tre portate con vino per solo €50 (ci hanno dato un aperitivo e dolci gratis!) Quando siamo arrivate al teatro, eravamo un po' ubriache ma ci piaceva lo spettacolo lo stesso! Era una serata incredibile.

So when I saw adverts for Swan Lake Reloaded, a mash-up of the classic music with Swedish techno and modern dance, I just had to recreate the experience.

Quindi, quando ho visto le pubblicità per Swan Lake Reloaded, una mista della musica classica con tecno svedese e danza moderna, dovevo ricreare l'esperienza.

Last night, we got dressed up in our finest shirts and jackets and headed out for a sophisticated night at the theatre - stopping at the Salentini restaurant which is directly opposite our appartment on the way!

Ieri sera ci siamo vestiti bene e siamo usciti per una serata sofisticata al teatro - con cena a Salentini, direttamente attraverso la strada dal nostro appartamento!




We were lucky enough to have the whole restaurant to ourselves as it was still too early for Italian dinner time. This meant I could actually take photos of the place without feeling embarassed about intruding on other people's evenings. We sat down at about 19:20 and left at 20:15 by which point it was half full! In the UK, peak dinner time is 19:30!

Eravamo abbastanza fortunati di essere da soli perché era ancora troppo presto per cena. Questo significava che potevo scattare delle foto dell'interiore senza disturbare gli altri! Ci siamo seduti alle 19:20 e usciti alle 20:15, al quale punto il ristorante era metà pieno. Nel Regno Unito, 19:30 sono le ore più attive per cena!





Magro knows a lot more about wine than I do and has a whole glass-swirling wine tasting process to prove it. This is him doing an impression of the final stage of wine tasting as illustrated on the wall of a restaurant we went to in Piemonte this weekend just gone (more on that to follow soon!)

Magro sa più del vino di me e ha un processo di degustazione per provarlo. Eccolo, facendo l'ultimo passo del degustazione di vino, come era illustrato sulla mura di un ristorante piemontese che abbiamo visto questo weekend!

I started with the "prosciutto del tonno all'anise" (or tuna sliced like prosciutto with aniseed) which was absolutely gorgeous. The fish was so tender and delicate, it fell apart on my fork whilst the flavour packed a real punch.

 Ho cominciato con prosciutto del tonno all'anise che era delizioso. Il pesce era così delicato che è caduto a pezzi sulla mia forchetta mentre il gusto era perfettamente forte.





I followed it with orecchiette with tomato sauce, basil and ricotta salata. A classic but I love it! Magro had octopus meatballs which were amazingly good!

After our whirlwind dinner, we jumped on our bikes and had a mad dash to the theatre. We ended up arriving with half an hour to go before the show started so I bought us a couple of glasses of prosecco to show just how civilised and sophisticated we are (ahem).

Poi ho preso orecchiette con pomodoro, basilico e ricotta salata. Semplice ma mi piace molto! Magro ha preso polpette di polpo che erano buonissime.

 Dopo la cena veloce, siamo andati in bici in fretta al teatro. Infine, avevamo 30 minuti prima dello spettacolo e quindi ho comprato due bicchieri di prosecco per farci sentire più sofisticati ed eleganti (...)




I think somebody had too much prosecco!

Penso che qualcuno abbia bevuto troppo prosecco!




Our seats were quite good, even if they were the second cheapest going.

Le nostre sedie erano in buona posizione anche se fossero i biglietti più economici.

Sadly I didn't get any photos of the performance just because my camera shines a really bright orange light before taking the photo (it really is not the subtlest thing in the world!) Even if I had, it wouldn't have done it justice and by not showing you what it's like, I hope your curiosity is aroused enough to force you to go next time it comes to a city near you!

Purtroppo non ho scattato niente foto dello spettacolo perché la mia macchina fotografica crea una luce fortissima prima di fare una foto (non è molto sottile!) Anche se l'avessi fatto, una foto non basterebbe per comunicarvi quanto è bello questo spettacolo e anche senza delle foto, forse volevate andare a vederlo!

Swan Lake Reloaded is a modernised version of the classic ballet with modern dance replacing the traditional ballet style and a mix of the original music thrown together with new songs as well as remixes of Tchaikovsky's genius work. There's enough of the old in there for it all to be recognisable but there's an equally healthy dose of the new to keep you on your toes for the entire ride! It was a lot shorter than the ballet - the entire show was about an hour and a half so there was no interval. I really appreciated this though (especially on a work night) as it didn't leave enough time for you to even consider getting bored.

Swan Lake Reloaded è una versione modernizzata del classico Lago dei Cigni con danza moderna e una mista della musica originale e musica tecno. C'è abbastanza del vecchio per farvi riconoscerlo e un grande quantità del nuovo per tenervi in anticipazione. Era molto più corto dell'originale però non era male per una serata in settimana! 

The swans are prostitutes by night, trapped by their dependence on Rothbart, the pimp who feeds their drug addiction. When Siegfried doesn't want any of the women presented to him at his birthday as a potential future wife, his friends drag him out to the red light district to cheer him up and man him up. It is there that he sees and falls in love with Odette and I'm sure you know the rest. If you don't - I ain't gonna tell ya! You have to go and see it!

I cigni sono prostituti di notte, incarcerati dalla dipendenza su Rothbart che dagli le droghe su cui dipendono. Quando Siegfried non vuole nessuno delle donne presentate per la sua moglie eventuale, i suoi amici lo prendono a trovare una puttana. Invece, trova Odette, si innamorano e sai il resto. Se no, non ti dico! Devi andare a vederlo!

 All in all, it was seriously impressive. The guy playing Rothbart particularly shone as an incredible dancer. Seriously incredible. From the moment he opens the show, the way he moves is out of this world. I really appreciated the way they showed withdrawal symptoms from drugs at one point; Odette is lying on the floor, shaking, whilst a flickering light makes her fade in and out of focus and also making her seem as if her very existence is trembling. The music slows and speeds up and fades and twists whilst the lights flicker and warp - very trippy!

An amazing evening with an amazing guy. Go see it!

 Era molto impressionante. Dall'inizio, Rothbart era una danzatore sicuramente incredibile. Il modo in cui muove è fuori di questo mondo. Anche mi piacevo il modo in cui hanno mostrato dipendenza sulle droghe. Quando Odette non riceve le sue droghe, si sdraia sul pavimento e trema mentre le luci tremola sopra di lei e la musica rallenta e accelera. Sembra che la sua esistenza è nei guai! Tutto insieme è molto difficile da vedere.

 Per concludere, era una bellissima serata con un bellissimo uomo. Vai a vederlo!
