I am a very lazy person.
When I'm browsing blogs and hunting through the comments section for more sites to follow, I can't always be bothered to copy and paste a URL into my address bar. I know. Lay-zee.
I much prefer being able to click on a ready-made link that will take me straight to the page. Some commenting platforms such as Disqus do it for you automatically but others require a bit of HTML to work that magic.
All you have to do is this:
Simple!
So I write ...
<./a>
(Without the dot in the final brackets - I'm having a lot of trouble with this post, partly because this comment linking is literally the only thing I know about HTML in the world)
Which will look like this...

And there you have it. An incredibly simple way to encourage lazy web browsers like me to come to your site. It works for Blogger and Wordpress' standard commenting systems. Squarespace does NOT use the HTML and so your code will just show up as if it were normal text.
Why not try it out in the comment section below and leave your link so this lazy blogger can check it out?

I used to have that ingrained in my brain back when I knew HTML a lot better, haha! I am too lazy to use it now. Honestly, I don't leave my link if I log in via my Wordpress account and know that if you click my username, you'll go to my blog (that's how your blog works!). Most blogs I follow are either like yours, use Disqus, or have their own way of comments which includes leaving a username, email, and website. I usually don't comment if it's more difficult than that! :p

Haha I get a bit lazy with commenting too sometimes :) I really like the comment luv function which links to the latest post, that's a good one to have. I thought I'd post this because I see a lot of people leaving the full address in a comment without linking it up, hopefully they'll be able to get more traffic this way! xxx
DeleteMmm. I'm notoriously shy on the interwebs. I have a public blog with readers and all but whenever I leave a comment on a non-Wordpress blog, I tend to leave a fake name or sign off anonymously. It's hard to explain. I like readers. Readers are cool! But yeah...
ReplyDeleteFor some odd reason though I feel the urge to respond to your call to leave my blog link here. Haha. So, this is me! At this juncture I shall fess up that the commenter "S" on your Milano May Day Parade post was me. It was cool to see photos of things that happened while I was somewhere around there at somewhat the same time. There's a photo of my Parco Sempione outing on May Day up in my newest blog post, actually. :)
Btw, I found your blog through your comment on Shutterbean's Crispy Smashed Potatoes. Your new reader (i.e., me) is proof that this leaving your blog link thing works!

Oh lovely, it's nice to find out who that was :) and thanks for leaving your link, I will come over and check it out! Glad the HTML worked for you haha! Hopefully after a bit your confidence will grow, it is scary putting yourself out there especially when you don't know who your audience are all the time xxx
DeleteIt worked! Yay :) I hope it helps xxx
ReplyDeleteOh no I didn't realise! That's annoying. No, Blogspot doesn't recognise it as spam :) I always have people leaving the full http:// address in comments and I just thought it might be nice for them to be able to leave a link xxx
