I'm sorry for abandoning the blog this past week, it's all been a bit crazy!
I went home for the weekend and just didn't find time to write amongst all the chocolate and prosecco and long walks along the coast. I'm safely back in Milan now where the sun is shining and the air is smooth and warm.
Leaving either of these places I call home has become bittersweet now - I'm always excited to see either my family or Magro but I always have to leave the other behind. Italy has the most delicious fresh food and decadent weather but England, and more specifically the Isle of Thanet (which is no longer an Isle and um, hasn't been for a long time), is my home.
Anyway, enough of that!
I need your help.
Tomorrow I'm going on holiday (again!)
I've booked two nights in a beautiful agriturismo overlooking Lake Como. We have a private garden, a lake view and, weather permitting, a gorgeous swimming pool to laze beside over the weekend.
But what else should we do? Where should we go to eat? Where are the best hikes? I need help!
If you've been to Lake Como (or know somebody who has) please, please, please get in touch with your tips! I've left it a little late but oh well :) these things have a habit of working themselves out.
Hope you had a lovely Easter weekend!
Some pics of where we're off to..

:O I'm so jealous! When I visit Venice, we're staying in a little camping village thing in Mestre. They don't even have any double rooms so we've ended up with a twin (REALLY great seeing as I barely get to see Nick these days. All I want is a cuddle, damnit.)
ReplyDeleteBUT, I get to see Venice again, which I haven't done in almost 7 years, I get to see Nick for an entire week, AND I get to see you and Michele, which will be awesome. I just reeeeeeally hope the weather's good! We're due to get rain and storms here until mid-next week, so some sunshine would be great! :P
Hope you have an amazing time at Lake Como! I don't know much about the area because we were always in the car, but the scenery is genuinely breathtaking! :)
We really need to arrange meeting up when you're over :) I need to check out trains but do you think your budget would allow you to get over to a different town for an evening? That way we can meet halfway and you get to see another part of Italy ;) there's Verona, Vicenza, Brescia and Desenzano sul Garda all on the same train line! And thanks, we had a lovely time, will be in touch soon to arrange meeting xxx
DeleteI went with my boyfriend last year and it was gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cathedral, lovely architecture around the piazzas, obviously boat hire around the lake- I think we got a day trip for under 30 euros each- but be careful where you go, some of the boats take you to really expensive areas and some to really cute villages.
We really liked eating at a little restaurant in Varenna, I can't remember what it's called but it's near the church (and good for the budget). Also it's famous but La Vita è Bella is definitely worth a trip- some of the best food I've had in Italy.
As for hikes I have no geographical advice but it is all so beautiful just head for the highest! If in doubt I remember a tourist office which had a few routes planned for tourists.
Have a great time!
We did end up in Varenna and although we didn't eat there after our monstrously large breakfast, we did sit by the lake and have an ice cream haha! That area around by the church is beautiful though :) xxx
Deleteooh my boyfriend suprised me with a road trip across Italy a couple of years ago and we stayed at Lake Como for a while- it's breath taking. great food everywhere we went, it really just depended on your budget, some good vineyards, fab hikes- i just went where looked good and didn't bother with trails, there is a cable railway if you've had one too many gelatos, lovely and reasonably priced boat trips, some lovely gardens... you won't run out of things to do!
ReplyDeleteone of my favourite days we hired a little boat and just went out by ourselves with a picnic and the views were beautiful. it's all very romantic!
have a great holiday!
What a great boyfriend you have! We didn't get to any vineyards unfortunately and the day we planned on going up in the cable car, the whole lake was enveloped in mist, clouds and rain haha! But the gardens were absolutely beautiful :) I loved the picnic idea but we were always so full from breakfast we couldn't handle it haha! xxx
Deleteit's a shame about the weather but the rain is what makes the gardens so lovely and lush if that's a consolation... yeah picnics are always a good idea but in a boat it was quite magical, something you can do anywhere though so i'm sure you had a great time doing other things. can't wait for the blogs!
Deletep.s- i just read your new post about your life and i think it's sad that your friend can't admire your happiness, it brightens my day! writing about less positive things gives you a humanity which i appreciate as a reader. bloggers such as jack monroe writing about hardship give a different perspective to bloggers like you writing about nice food and travel, but both are as interesting and readable and valuable as each other so i wouldn't worry about your facebook friends pettiness. thanks for the great blog, it's as good as rosie londoner's btw xxx
Thank you, that's a huge compliment! The tone of the blog will completely change when I go back to uni but I'm determined to keep it as interesting :)
DeleteGoing around the gardens in the rain was lovely, there were hardly any people there and it felt like we had the place to ourselves! I took lots and lots and lots of photos of flowers so prepare yourself haha xxx
